Members of the SUSTAIN Programme Grant team delivered an exciting E-Textiles workshop at the British Science Festival, currently taking place in Southampton (16-20 September 2026).
The workshop was a sell-out, attracting a diverse audience of enthusiastic participants, including members of the public and high school students eager to explore the future of wearable and textile-based technologies. We hope we inspired some of the next generation of e-textile engineers along the way!
The session began with an engaging introduction to e-textiles from Dr Abiodun Komolafe, before participants got hands-on with six interactive activities:

🔹 Sensing and RF Technology
🔹 E-Textile Healthcare Applications
From experimenting with conductive materials to exploring the potential of e-textiles in healthcare and energy storage, the room was buzzing with curiosity, creativity and innovation throughout the event.
